Office 2016 Mac Junk Email Settings

Microsoft expects server-side filtering to cut down on your junk mail, and hopefully Outlook 2016 for Mac will improve junk mail filtering. Microsoft has also published a comparison of Outlook for Mac 2011 and Outlook 2016 for Mac junk email protection options: As it seems like, Outlook 2016 for Mac does indeed bring better junk mail filtering. To classify a message as junk and move it to your Junk E-mail folder, Ctrl+click or right-click a message header and then click Junk Mail Mark as Junk. To classify a message as junk and block the sender, Ctrl+click or right-click a message header and then click Junk Mail Block Sender. Add important people to your Outlook contacts.

Microsoft Office For Mac 2016

No one likes spam or junk email. The Outlook 2016 for Mac Junk Email Filter doesn't stop delivery of junk email messages, but does the next best thing --- it moves suspected spam to the Junk Email folder. We recommend you regularly review messages in the Junk Email folder to check for legitimate messages that were incorrectly classified as junk. If you find a message that isn't junk, drag it back to the Inbox or any folder.

About junk e-mail protection

Ms Office 2016 Mac

When the filter finds a message that appears to be junk, Outlook does the following:

Mac
  • Moves the message to the junk e-mail folder for that account.
  • Assigns the message to the junk category.
  • Blocks any embedded pictures in the message. In some cases, downloading the pictures in a mail message lets the sender know that your mail address is active. If a junk mail sender knows that your address is active, you are more likely to receive additional junk mail from that sender.

Unlike Outlook 2011 for Mac, there is no client-side junk mail filtering in the 2016 version. Instead, all filtering is done at the server level, before the mail has even reached your Inbox. However, you can still use the Mark as Junk, Not Junk, or Block Sender options from within Outlook 2016 for Mac. To do so, select the relevant message, then under the Home tab, look for the Junk icon and choose one of the options from the dropdown menu. You can also right-click on the relevant message and choose the Junk Mail option from the dropdown list, or choose the Rules option to set up a rule that determines what happens the next time you receive mail from that sender.

NOTE: you will notice from the screen shot above that “Junk Email Preferences” is greyed out. This is because those settings are managed from the Exchange server. You can log into your Office 365 webmail account to manage some of these settings, such as editing a blocked senders list.
